What is Jin Shin Jyutsu?
Jin Shin Jyutsu is a more then thousand years old ‘art’ we all know unconsciously and use to harmonise our energy and lift up energy blocks within our body. It originates from Japan and was almost lost because of modern medicine. The energy slots are similar to the Chinese acupuncture we already know.
When you stubbed your toe, you automatically hold it: that is Jin Shin Jyutsu. Or when you are thinking you grab your forehead, that’s also Jin Shin Jyutsu.
How to apply Jin Shin Jyutsu on a daily basis?
Jin Shin Jyutsu is very easy to apply on a daily basis, because you can do it anywhere at any time. You don’t need to unclothe yourself to harmonise a certain energy lock. Here are the three basic pratices you can do, even without the knowledge of the 26 energy locks.
Hold your fingers
Holding your fingers sounds pretty stupid and to easy to believe it actually does anything. But just like with your feet, your entire body is represented in your hands. You could even hold your toes, if that feel more comfortable to you 😉
To give you a little bit of an idea how complex just holding your fingers is. For example, when you are holding your middle finger you are harmonising the gall bladder, liver and energy locks 3 ,6, 12, 13 & 15. Every finger also stands for a certain emotion. Your middle finger stands for anger, who would have guessed? And all fingers are linked to an element as well, in this case that would be wood.
Sidenote: In Japanese you do have 5 elements, not 4. ‘Wood’ is the one we don’t see as an element in the western culture.
You just hold every finger for 2 to 3 minutes, if your fingers are thumping a lot, hold them longer. This is what usually happens the first time. The thumping is not your heart, but the energy that’s flowing through your fingers.
I usually do it when I am travelling, reading a book, waiting for the bus/train/plain, feeding my baby or when I am watching a movie. Sometimes even when I am in a conversation. There is always a moment you can do it. And as you don’t need to unclothe yourself you can also do it with your gloves on 😉
The 36 ‘magic’ breaths
A very relaxing and easy practise to release stress on a daily basis is taking 36 natural breaths with Jin Shin Jyutsu. You just cross your hands and put your hands with your thumbs up in your arm pits.
To make it even more relaxing do it after you took a shower. Lie down in bed, dim the lights and if you like it put a relaxing essential oil in a candle holder. This Lavender oil for example.
Central energy flow
Your central energy flow is where your body gets the energy from. It is the high road in your body and connects you with the universe. Even when you don’t have a busy life it is advisable to harmonise your central energy flow every day.
This energy high road flows from our feet over our back upwards and flows down at the front of our body. In this case you harmonise the front side of your body.
Your right hand just stays on the top of your head while your left hand is moving down the following points:
- in between your eyebrows
- on the back and the tip of your nose
- dimple just above your collar bones
- centre of your sternum
- end of your sternum
- Two cm above your bellybutton
- pelvic bone
At the last step your left hand stays on the pelvic bone and your right hand moves towards your tailbone.
If you want to know what every step harmonises I recommend you to order the book I used as a source as well: Jin Shin Jyutsu: Guide to Quick Aid. Written by Felicitas Waldeck. You also get the healing from A – Z. Awesome about this book is that it is so practical and easy to use. You can immediately use it on yourself and others.
The 26 Jin Shin Jyutsu Energy Locks
When you are harmonising your hands on a daily basis and also your central energy flow, you are doing a lot already. However, for specific illnesses you might want to use the energy locks as well. I like this book because it has so many different exercises for specific diseases and for every single energy slot as well.
All those combinations are examples, maybe you find other combinations. For example, sometimes I am doing point 8 and then I feel point 3 also very strong. So then I just start with the third energy lock. You cannot do anything wrong really.
What also helps when, for example, you badly damaged your knee is this: First put your hands for a couple of minutes on your ‘good’ knee. Then put your hands on your bad knee as long as needed or how you feel like it. Doing this will transfer the image of your good knee and help you heal faster.
Just for your attention, with severe illness you should always go to a doctor. You can always use Jin Shin Jyutsu to support yourself.
How to use Jin Shin Jyutsu in case of emergencies?
Here a quick overview of the energy places to hold in case of certain emergencies:
- with an ‘confusion‘: Hold both 4 and both 7, you can also do this with two persons at a time.
- when you are bleeding: the right hand on it and the left crossed above the fresh wound. Can also be just above the injury, so you don’t have to touch it.
- pressure on the heart: hold both wrists.
- Cramps: hold in the middle of number 23
- unconsciousness: hold both energy locks 4
- accident, operation, critical situation: hold fingers or toes.
- burn: let your left hand float above it with the right hand crossed on your left hand
- choking: hold both high energy locks number 1

When you are travelling
While travelling you come in so many different places with different gems and viruses. You will also meet new awesome people, experience different energies and vibes and make lots of new experiences. You really want to have a healthy and strong immune system when you are travelling. When you are a travelling family not just for you, but for your kids as well.
So here are some Jin Shin Jyutsu exercises you can do to support the immune system of your kids and yourself. This next to the daily exercises like holding your fingers, the 36 breaths and harmonising your central energy flow.
This exercise is around energy lock 13, which stands for rejuvenation.
- Hold your index finger
- Hold your middle finger
- Hold your pink
- Hold both your upper arms
- Out your Right hand on your sternum, and your left hand on your pelvic bone.
When you are walking and being around all day, carrying your bag back and your kids, you might get some muscle pain. Energy slot number 8 is good to harmonise because it also helps for sunburn, stiffness/cramps in your calves and it even support you with diarrhoea and constipation.
- Put your right hand on your right energy slot 25
- Your left hand on the left 25
- Right hand on your left little toe
- Left hand on your richt little toe
- Hold both number 8, don’t cross
Special for diarrhoea:
- Right hand on right 8
- Left hand on left 2
Specifically for constipation (opposite of diarrhoea)
- Left hand on left 8
- Right hand on right 2
To support your kids
It is always good to show and tell your kids about Jin Shin Jyutsu just starting with holding their hands. It will help them in developing and help them grow.
Here are just some other exercises you can do together with them:
If you have a hyperactive kid
- Right hand on right 23 + left hand on left 25
- Left hand on left 23 + right hand on right 25
- Right hand on right 4 + left hand on left 21
- Left hand on left 4 + Right hand on right 21
When your kid is having a hard time falling asleep (like my oldest one) then your might consider putting your hand on his/her temple. Energy slot number 4, just where your spine starts will help as well.
